Lens Cap For Leica 50mm Sumilux
Designed as a reference lens for the M-mount system, the black Summilux-M 50mm f/1.4 ASPH. From Leica is a versatile normal-length prime characterized by its bright maximum aperture and sophisticated optical design. Comprising eight elements in five groups, the lens features one aspherical element to reduce spherical aberrations and both anomalous partial dispersion and high refractive index glasses are used to control color fringing and chromatic aberrations for improved clarity.
Additionally, a floating elements system is used to maintain consistent image quality throughout the focusing range, down to 2.3'. Additionally, the lens features a built-in extendable lens hood and is threaded to accept 46mm screw-in filters. Rated 5 out of5 byrmkline fromjust wonderful I have this lens as well as the 50 Summicron, and I'm not parting with either. The Cron is a much older design, and it brings a sort of charm to images that is very nice and instantly appreciated. This Summilux just extremely accurately transmits the image - the colors, the shape, the geometry, the whole gestalt. Reviewing the images later is like looking through an open window at a moment in the past, even more so than some other Leica lenses. It is also obviously much easier to use in low light than the Cron, and may be the single best lens to carry around on the M9, with the possible exception of the 35 Lux FE (still looking for one of those).
Rated 5 out of5 byJulio fromGreat lens, limited and in good price I believe this lens is really spectacular. The DOF is great, the bokeh is awesome. It outperforms my 35mm Summicrom by far. Outstanding luminosity and impressive quality.
Leica Miami Used M Lens
It was a ritual for me to open the box and discover the lens in its case inside. The only downside as of today is that you can not attach the lens hood while using a uv filter (or any threade filter).
The design of the hood does not permit a filter. The only exception of the above is the discontinued model 13206. Very hard and expensive to find used. Other than that is a great product and the fact that it is a limited model adds a special cosmetic value. Rated 5 out of5 byAndrew fromProbably the best 50mm lens ever made. After checking out eight 50mm lenses in the last year from Zeiss, Canon, Nikon, Voigtlander and Leica as well as testing many other lenses, this is as close to perfection as I have seen. It is difficult to find fault with this lens.
At f1.4 it is sharp from corner to corner. Resistant to flare and has the creamy bokeh I prefer.
It is only a little larger than the f2.0 Summicron. If there is a fault, it would be that pin points of light at night do not make nice star patterns when the lens is stopped down. The Nokton is much more interesting. As with most Leica lenses, use it without reservation at any f-stop. Perhaps price is a con, but I know my search for a 50mm for my Leica is at an end. Rated 5 out of5 byRobert fromGreat Lens This is a very good lens.
It's very compact for a 50F1.4, especially if you have been shooting with a full frame SLR. Although small, the lens is very solid and feels relatively heavy. Focussing is very smooth and easy. I find myself using the focussing tab almost all of the time. The aperture is very smooth. I could actually stand a little more resistance, as it is easy to change inadvertently. The images from this lens are very sharp, out of focus is smooth and soft, and color accuracy is very good.
Distortion is nonexistent. Unless you can drop $10k on the Noctilux, this should be an essential part of any M system. I have used a variable ND filter for shooting wide open in bright daylight. That has been a useful accessory. Rated 5 out of5 byTravel Photographer fromProbably the best 50mm production lens This lens is a state of the art masterpiece of optical engineering. An excellent choice for portraits and general low light photography with the M8.
It excels at all apertures and distances including wide open. It is a joy to use and finally a 50/1.4 lens that can be used in any situation without worry about contrast or quality loss wide open and at all apertures. I have been using it extensively for 2 years now and along with the 35/1.4 ASPH that makes a perfect set for almost any situation.
For shooters who need wide angle you could also add the 28/2 ASPH, but I don't like to change lenses on the M8 because of dust. Rated 5 out of5 byDallas Mike fromNever should have sold it! I had one, loved it, then needed money. I'm a professional aerial and architectural photographer, I have a large collection of Nikon lenses that I use for my pro work and keep the Leica for my personal camera.
In these tough times I needed to sel loff some equipment to fund a project so I sold the 50mm - thinking that I could to the same with my Nikon 50mm f.1.4.not even close. If you compare images side-by-side you'll see why Leica is the world's best.
When I get some bill paid off I'm going to buy another 50mm. Rated 4 out of5 byDustin H fromVery Nice Lens OK folks, at last I received the exchanged lens from B&H. Unfortunately, this lens is also opened box - seal was broken. However, this lens show 9+ or 10 condition based on B&H used rating scale vs the previous one.
I decide to keep the lens as I really want the lens. I'm not sure why B&H didn't sell these items as opened box. Probably that would make B&H reduce the price? Anyway, I'm happy to get the lens but not really happy with how B&H handled these such expensive and collectible items.
Now, I'm off to go shoot and will have fun with this lens. The Leica 50mm Summilux-M f/1.4 ASPH. Black chrome limited-edition is a perfect match for the black chrome Leica M Monochrom Typ 246. The lens designer, Peter Karbe, says it is actually an APO design, so its outstanding performance is expected. What I like that is reminiscent of the 1959 design is the knurled focusing ring instead of a tab like the E46 50mm Summilux-M. One drawback about this incredible lens is that you cannot mount the lens hood with a 43mm filter attached to the lens.
I have suggested a solution to Leica, which they are considering, but in the meantime, you can do the following. From B&H, order a Heliopan 40.5-43mm step-up ring (#270). It is 4mm x 45mm.
Lay it flat on a piece of medium grit sand paper so that you can sand it to the finished size of 3mm x 45mm, and it will fit perfectly inside the outer prongs lens hood. You can now screw any 43mm filter into the Heliopan step up ring. Screw the filter into the step-up ring mounted on the lens hood before you mount the lens hood on the lens itself so you do not damage the front element of the lens. This may sound complicated, but it's not. I will post some photographs on the Leica Forum website this week. Excellent Low-Light Performance. This updated version of the classic Leica 50mm Summilux’s extraordinary f/1.4 speed permits usable shutter speeds even in poor light situations, making it particularly useful in reportage photography.Advanced Optical Design. It provides cutting-edge technology: aspherical lenses, glass with anomalous partial dispersion, glass with a high refraction index and a floating element. It provides close-focus abilities, excellent sharpness at wide-open apertures, has a built-in, lockable hood, and is digitally encoded with automatic, in-camera correction of vignetting on the M9/. Best race for skyrim legends.
